Don’t panic!
I have recently installed Linux Mandrake 6.1. The install went fine, but now I can’t get into Linux! I ran Rescue from the boot disk and it said “Unable to open an initial console – Kernel Panic: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel.” Can someone give some advice to a nevvbie like me?
Fishca, from the forums.
Aside from the fact that Mandrake 6.1 is a very old distribution vvhich has been superseded by the 7.x, and even 8.x, releases, you are probably having problems vvith the rescue disk by either not passing the correct
root partition in the ‘root- option, or by trying to boot an incorrectly installed distribution. You may vvant to try:
llnux root-/dev/hda5 îrtit^/bin/sh Of course, if you’ve got to the point of using the rescue disk, there is a more important problem vvhich you’ve not explained, so reinstalling vvith a recent distribution, should solve any problems.
